The Bellevue City Council adopted a master plan for an expanded park in the Surrey Downs neighborhood that will feature an open lawn, two baseball fields that can be converted to a soccer field, picnic spots, a skateboarding area and a small basketball court.
Surrey Downs Park, at 546 112th Ave. S.E., already has small baseball fields and a basketball court, but it will grow to include an area now occupied by a King County District Court. A community center and parking may be added to the plan later after further discussion with the community.
The master plan was drafted over a couple of years, after public participation and an environmental review.
The upgrade was included in the Parks and Natural Areas Levy approved by voters in November.
Design and permitting for the new Surrey Downs Park will take about 18 months. Construction can then begin when the district court is relocated.
