The Bellevue City Council voted Monday to approve $35,000 in emergency funding for the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra’s July 4 celebration at Downtown Park.

The orchestra’s finances have been hit by the loss of a major donor and declining attendance in the past year. The group, which in past seasons offered as many as six masterworks concerts, chamber orchestra performances and an award-winning music in the schools program, is conducting a fundraising drive, and will hold a benefit concert May 17, 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue (1717 Bellevue Way Northeast).

The July 4 event, known as the Symetra Bellevue Family 4th, has drawn up to 60,000 spectators in years past.
