The city of Bellevue’s communications department is warning residents and commuters to expect light snow and 35 mph winds Friday.
A press release from the city said expected snow between midnight and 8 a.m. may bring an inch of wet snow downtown and up to 2 inches of the cold stuff in the eastern and southern portions of the city by commute time.
“Plan ahead, allow more time for the morning commute, drive with caution and be prepared for slick or slush roads,” the release read. “…the city’s snow and ice trucks and equipment are ready, along with plenty of sand, anti-icing and de-icing chemicals. Employees will be on standby, ready to work around the clock.”
Snow fall is expected to decrease by 9 a.m. and transition into rain.
Tips offered to commuters included:
- Plan your routes and avoid peak commute hours if possible. Drive only if necessary and go slow, allowing extra distance when following other cars.
- Treat dark intersections as four-way stops.
- Stay inside if possible. If you go out, have traction devices in your vehicle. Test the fit of snow chains and have a cell phone in case you get stuck.
- Locate alternate routes and parking if you live or work on steep terrain.
- Stick to main roads
- Do not park in intersections or block streets.
- Approach likely locations for black ice — intersections, off-ramps, bridges or any shady section of road — slowly.
