Bellevue’s City Council on Nov. 17 acknowledged the Bellevue Parks Yes! committee for its successful campaign to pass a recent parks levy.
Merle Keeney, chair of the volunteer group, recognized several citizens as being vital to the effort, including Karen Roper, Paul Wiegand, John Stokes and Lee Maxwell.
The Bellevue parks levy passed with a 66-percent majority during the general election this month.
The new $40.5 million levy cost the average homeowner around $71 per year as a result of the measure, which pays for projects that include enhancing Coal Creek and Lewis Creek parks, completing the loop trail around the waterfall and reflecting pond at Bellevue Downtown Park, expansion of the Crossroads Community Center, redevelopment of Surrey Downs Park, and development of a new 27-acre park in the Eastgate area along 156th Avenue Southeast.
