CityU names deans in education, management

Bellevue-based City University of Seattle has appointed Judy Hinrichs, M.Ed. as the dean of the Albright School of Education and Dr. Kurt Kirstein, Ed.D. as the dean of the School of Management. Both Hinrichs and Kirstein have been serving as interim deans of their respective schools.

Bellevue-based City University of Seattle has appointed Judy Hinrichs, M.Ed. as the dean of the Albright School of Education and Dr. Kurt Kirstein, Ed.D. as the dean of the School of Management. Both Hinrichs and Kirstein have been serving as interim deans of their respective schools.

Hinrichs began her tenure in the Albright School of Education at CityU of Seattle in 1996 as an adjunct faculty member. In 2002 she became a senior faculty member. She was named associate dean of the school in 2004 and interim dean in 2007.

Prior to working at CityU, Hinrichs spent more than 30 years working in the Edmonds School District as a teacher, principal, program manager, staff development specialist, and administrator.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Speech Therapy from Western Washington University, and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Washington.

She also served as president of the Edmonds Education Association and as an adjunct faculty member for several universities in the state of Washington.

Kirstein came to CityU in 2005 as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Management. He became a full-time faculty member and program director for the school in January 2007, and was named interim dean at the end of that year.

Prior to working at CityU, Kirstein worked at Rosetta Biosoftware as the director of training and senior director of customer service and training. He also spent several years at Lucent Technologies where he worked as a customer support analyst, support team manager, and senior customer support manager.

Kirstein holds a Bachelor of Science from The Evergreen State College, a Master of Arts in Adult Education and Training from Seattle University, and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

He has served as the dissertation committee chair and doctoral advisor for Nova Southeastern University since 2005.

The Albright School of Education offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education, Teaching Endorsements, and Credential programs for aspiring teachers, counselors, principals, administrators, and superintendents. It also offers graduate and undergraduate degrees through its Division of Arts and Sciences.

The School of Management offers bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Management, and Information Systems, as well as the Master in Business Administration, and master’s degrees in Leadership, Project Management, and Technology Management, in the state of Washington, Europe and Asia.
