Classified ad customers of two weeklies newspapers in Chelan County have been victimized by a fraud scheme that has recently also been active in other parts of the country.

The scammers contact advertisers, claiming to be from the newspaper and informing the customers there was a problem with the credit card transaction used to purchase the ad, and ask for the card numbers.

If approached in this fashion, people are urged to contact the your local police, and the consumer fraud division of the Washington Attorney General’s office.
