A Bellevue Boy Scout will be collecting clothing for the homeless at Newport High School Dec. 7-8.
Caleb Kim of Troop 438 is collecting the clothing on behalf of the Jesus Loves Project, as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project.
“I have a family friend who is a close friend with Rocky Riggins, the pastor of the Jesus Loves Project,” Kim said. “So we met and he’s a very nice person who cares about what he does.”
Kim said he was inspired to help the homeless by participation in his church’s outreach program for homeless persons in Bothell.
Eagle Scout Projects require a candidate to demonstrate leadership by seeing through a project that benefits the community. The candidate supervises volunteers as they help bring the project to completion.
Kim has enlisted his fellow Scouts to help collect the clothing at Newport High. In the meantime, he has been distributing fliers door-to-door and mailing letters to three Bellevue neighborhoods to raise awareness for the campaign.
He has set a goal to collect 200 articles of clothing.
The donation drives will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on both days.
The high school is located at 4333 Factoria Blvd. S.E.
