The new home of the Coal Creek Family YMCA continues to take shape in the Newcastle area.
Set to open in the fall of 2009, the 48,000 square-foot facility will have two fully accessible pools – a 25-yard lap pool and a 25-yard recreation pool with water features and a warmer temperature.
The aquatic center also will allow for continual lap swim availability, classes, lessons and recreational opportunities.
The facility also will include a Youth Development Center, a space for youth to interact with one another during out-of-school time
There also will be family locker rooms and space to help families with young children, people with disabilities or seniors who need extra assistance.
The new Y will have two family size gyms for basketball, volleyball and youth sports leagues. A wellness studio also will be on site.
The building also will include state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment and YMCA staff available to help people meet their wellness goals.
Estimated cost of the facility is $19.75 million.
A capital campaign has raised $2.82 million of its $3.25 million goal as of Feb. 10.
