Saturday, July 19 is the last day for mail in and online voter registrations and transfers for the August 19 primary. New Washington voters have until Aug. 4 to register in-person to vote.
King County Elections will have office hours on Saturday, July 19 and Saturday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Over the past six months, King County has processed nearly 237,900 new and updated voter registrations; 42 percent more than this time in 2004,” said King County Elections director Sherril Huff. “Judging by the incredible interest, we’re expecting a record setting turnout this year.”
Huff explained the primary reason some voters won’t receive their absentee ballot early next month is because they’ve moved and haven’t updated their address.
To be eligible to vote, you must be:
— Eighteen years old by August 19;
— A United States citizen;
— A resident of King County; and
— Not presently denied your voting rights due to a felony conviction.
Registering to vote is easy– visit www.kingcounty.gov/elections, fill out a registration form and mail it to King County Elections, postmarked by Saturday, July 19. Mail-in voter registrations are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, Laotian, Russian, and Vietnamese.
People also can register to vote in person by visiting:
— King County Elections’ Renton office;
— One of King County’s seven Community Service Centers; or,
— A Washington State drivers license facility or other state government offices, including military recruitment and public assistance offices.
King County Elections is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 919 SW Grady Way in Renton. For directions or more information, visit www.kingcounty.gov/elections or call 206-296-VOTE (8683).
