Downtown road closed as police negotiate with suicidal man locked in his apartment | UPDATE

Bellevue police remain locked in a standoff with a suicidal man, who has been barricaded inside his apartment since early Monday morning.

A Bellevue man was found dead after he barricaded himself in his home Monday morning.

Police called the man suicidal and attempted to persuade him to leave his home during a five-hour standoff. Officers attempted to get in touch with him verbally using a bullhorn and through text messages and Facebook. All of those methods were unsuccessful, police said.

Police said the 39-year-old man was upset due to a recent breakup with his girlfriend.

Police closed 100th Avenue Northeast between Northeast Fourth and Eighth Streets to deal with the incident.
