Dillon Briggs More of Bellevue’s Boy Scout Troop 606 received his Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor on June 15, continuing a line of family members to receive the award.
Dillon is a third generation recipient of this highest ranking Boy Scouts award. He follows in the footsteps of his grandfather and father.
Dillon’s grandfather, William Russell More Sr., earned his Eagle rank in at age 16 and his father, William Russell More Jr., earned his as well at age 16. Dillon’s younger brother JP More recently earned his 1st Class ranking and has a goal to earn his Eagle.
The Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and less than 5 percent of Boy Scouts earn the award. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership.
For his Eagle Service Project, Dillon partnered with the Bellevue Parks and Recreation Department to plan, organize, lead and manage volunteers to improve an area canopy in South Bellevue by planting over 200 native trees and shrubs. The project took over 100 man hours.
Close to 100 people, including family members, friends and fellow scouts, attended Dillon’s Eagle Court of Honor ceremony and “South Seas” celebration dinner held at the Clise Mansion in Redmond’s Marymoor Park.
“I want to thank everyone who supported and helped me throughout scouts and in reaching Eagle,” Dillon said. “The most important thing I learned from scouting is leadership and this skill has already helped me in so many areas of my life”.
John McGaw, who has been the scoutmaster for Bellevue’s Troop 606 for almost 40 years, was a presenter. Other ceremony presenters were Dillon’s uncle, Lance More, JP More, Jeff Grow (recipient of the Mentor pin), Jeffery Ashley (MC), and Brandon Rea. Other members of Troop 606 who participated in the ceremony were Cameron Devine, Andrew Hoke, Carter Woosley, Alex McKeehan, James Woosley, Harrison Devine, Dmitri Pimenov, and Clayton Eden.
Dillon is a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley where he plans on majoring in Economics/Statistics. He is the son of William Russell Jr. and Leigh Ann More of Bellevue.
