Eastside Christian School students make a splash for school auction

Four year olds at Eastside Christian School recently experienced the freedom that color, paint and a canvas bring.

By defying the convention of painting on an upright surface, Jackson Pollock added a new dimension, literally, by being able to view and apply paint to his canvases from all directions. Time magazine dubbed Pollock “Jack the Dripper” as a result of his unique painting style.

So with this in mind Eastside Christian’s Preschool Class produced three canvases along the lines of Jackson Pollack’s, with a 2010 twist.

One was developed in Turquoises, teals and brown’s, the other in reds and oranges, and the last in a lighter tone. All feature modern colors that you would find in your top interior design magazines.

The reason for this? The canvases are part of items that will sold at a school auction.

The size of the canvases are 4 x 4 feet. The children in the class divided into groups of five, just to prevent total chaos. Teachers and parents tried to help them negotiate where they would splash the paint, to maximize the ultimate effect.

The school’s auction will be 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27, with RSVPs requested by Feb. 12. The school is located at 14615 SE 22nd St., Bellevue, 425-641-5570, Ext 32.
