Eastside Dream Elite Cheerleading & Dance program has won the Recreation Cheer Program of the Year for 2014 from the Washington State Cheer Coaches Association. Eastside Dream Elite is finishing its 13th year as the official cheerleading program for the Bellevue Parks & Community Services Department where it hosts several camps and classes, year-round.
EDE added three satellite programs over the last year on Mercer Island with the Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department, Sammamish with the Redmond-Sammamish Boys & Girls Club, and Renton with the Renton Parks and Recreation Department.
It also offers a Cheer Ability team at Bellevue’s Highland Community Center, an adaptive program specifically for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. That team was formed in 2006 and continues today.
Other recent awards for the group include: 2014 – EDE Red Squad, its competition team through Mercer Island Parks, won the State Championship in the Senior Rec division; 2013 – Dan Lassiter and Kim Indurkar of the city of Bellevue’s Highland Center won Administrators of the Year; 2013 – EDE choreographer Jessica Mercer won Assistant Coach of the Year; and 2010 – EDE head coach Anne Christiansen won Coach of the Year.
