Downtown food truck patrons will feed more than themselves over the next three days. That’s because 18 vendors are committing $1 from every entree purchased to Food Lifeline through Thursday in the Mars Hill Church parking lot.
“We can provide fresh food with that dollar that’s provided,” said Ann Jacobus, corporate and foundation relations officer for Food Lifeline.
Each dollar provides 5.8 pounds of fresh food for partnering food banks and other agencies, Jacobus said, which are hard to keep in stock due to demand.
Expedia employees Darren Challey and Katherine Cheng reached out to Food Lifeline to set up the Food Truck Food Drive, which runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday this week.
“We actually had more people than we could accommodate,” Challey said of the number of food truck vendors interested in the event.
Sterling Realty Organization provided the parking.
“I think that was the biggest challenge, to find the space,” Jacobus said.
Food Lifeline serves 276 agencies in the Puget Sound Region, with Hopelink being the largest Eastside partnership.
Jacobus said Food Lifeline hopes to raise $5,000 during the 3-day event, which would provide 20,000 meals to those in need. That need increases during the summer.
“We need food all year round, but especially when kids don’t have access to free or reduced lunches,” she said.
Each day will feature a new roundup of food trucks. To learn more about the event, its vendors and Food Lifeline, go to foodlifeline.org.
