A Bellevue education group has found strong public support for a number of values that focus on improvement in Bellevue schools, including recognizing and rewarding innovation in teaching and that parent involvement in student learning should be encouraged and supported.

The group, Bellevue Leads, interviewed a random sampling of 300 Bellevue residents including teachers, parents and other community members. The purpose of the poll was to measure the depth of interest in the community values statement developed over the course of 2011 by the community members involved in the Bellevue Leads Coalition.

The organization is a collaboration between the Bellevue PTSA, the Bellevue Chapter of Stand for Children, and the League of Education Voters.

“As community members and parents, we believe that we are collectively responsible for the growth of all of our children through education.” said Cathy Habib, one of the PTSA representatives to Bellevue Leads. “We believe the continuing teachers’ contract negotiation provides an excellent opportunity for Bellevue public schools to build on our successes and make great strides for all our students.”

Other areas getting strong community support were having evaluations include multiple measures of performance and that all students should receive meaningful and timely input and feedback.

The poll was conducted by DMA Market Research over a one week period between June 29 and July 6. The full report on the poll results is available on the group’s website.
