Bellevue’s Eton School students earned a number of awards April 8-9 at the 64th Washington/British Columbia Junior Classical League (Latin) Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The school’s 5-8th grade students earned awards in academic, graphic and performing arts, sports and costume. They competed against many students in high school.

The biggest thrill was the students bringing home the Certamen first-place trophy. Certamen is a Jeopardy-like, highly competitive academic game. Students must have knowledge of Latin grammar, vocabulary, history, mythology and culture, but also be able to “buzz in” before the other teams.

Matei Aramanasu, Maddie Home, Sonoma Brill and Dagny Layman, 7th and 8th graders at Eton School, won the final competition against Garfield High School.
