Bellevue and Redmond firefighters responded to an unoccupied residence in northeast Bellevue to extinguish a garage fire. Neighbors reported hearing popping noises and then saw the flames. They were the ones to call 911.

The fire occurred in the 1700 block of 172nd Pl NE and was reported at 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

The garage was heavily damaged but the structure was still intact. The lack of a door between the garage and the rest of the house contributed to significant smoke and heat damage throughout. The house was in the latter stages of remodeling.

The homeowner and contractor arrived at the scene to survey the damage.

A total of four fire engines and one ladder truck responded to the fire. Also on scene was a command vehicle, a medical officer, an aid car and a medic unit. There were no injuries to fire crews.

A Bellevue Fire investigator arrived on scene and began the investigation. Preliminary damage is at least $150,000. There is no preliminary cause to report.≈
