Four residents were displaced by a fire at a Bellevue home Monday. The oldest child, an 18 year old, discovered the fire helped his mother and two brothers evacuate before the home’s smoke detectors activated.
The 18 year old called 911 at 11:25 p.m., Monday, to report flames visible on the porch of his 3000 square foot home on the 3200 block of 110th Avenue Southeast. In just over six minutes firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the exterior of the home.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes but not before the fire broke a large kitchen window allowing smoke to enter the home.
The residents said they used a gas barbeque on the patio earlier in the day to cook some fish for dinner. Several hours later, while working in the kitchen, the 18 year old heard crackling sounds coming from the porch. Discovering flames in front of kitchen window, he called 911 as he evacuated his family.
Bellevue fire investigators confirmed the fire started on the porch. The cause of the fire is undetermined. No firefighters were injured. The damage is estimated at $100,000.
