Knights in Vienna, , a fundraising gala to benefit the award-winning Newport High School orchestra, will be held beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at the school. The event includes live musical performances by talented students, a silent auction of items from local businesses, dance instruction by Redmond’s Aria Ballroom and gourmet desserts.

For the past two years, the Newport High School orchestra has been led by New York-born director Christine Gero. Its Chamber Orchestra recently won a gold medal at the 2014 UW-America String Teachers Association Festival last February, among other accolades. The orchestra is also one of 12 high school orchestras across the nation selected to compete at the 2015 National Americas String Teachers Association in Utah next March.

Funds raised at the gala will help provide additional instruments, student scholarships, and clinical musical instruction.
