Rabbi James Mirel, Senior Rabbi at Bellevue’s Temple B’nai Torah, will be honored at a gala dinner, Feb. 12 celebrating his 25 years with Temple B’nai Torah, and 36 years over-all in the Rabbinate.
Mirel Reed College in Portland, and took his first full-time position as Assistant Rabbi at Seattle’s Temple De Hirsch Sinai. While there, he became involved in outreach to the greater Seattle community, joining with clergy from St. Marks Cathedral to co-facilitate an influential interfaith couples group.
After joining Temple B’nai Torah, he became known in the greater Seattle community for outreach to, and dialogue with, Christians, Muslims and other diverse faith communities. He also became known for his commitment to social justice, serving on the boards of numerous not-for-profit organizations, and becoming personally involved in the fight to bring Tent City IV to Temple B’nai Torah.
