Getting ready for PONCHO’s Wine Auction | Rose Dennis, In Good Company

Philanthropists Chap and Eve Alvord opened up their beautiful home the evening of March 29 to celebrate the upcoming PONCHO 20th Wine Auction on May 14 at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel. One of the Alvord favorite pastimes is collecting art: Glass artists Dale Chihuly, Robert Morris, Anna Skibska, Dante Maroni, Lino Tagliapetra, to name a few; along with paintings created by Northwest artist Kenneth Callahan.

We all sipped wine from Duckhorn as we admired art throughout Chap and Eve’s home. Dan Duckhorn, founder and chairman of Duckhorn Vineyards and Duckhorn Wine Company, is PONCHO’s Honorary Vintner for this year’s wine auction.

Auction items up for grabs will include California Cult wines that are impossible to find, let alone purchase; trips to Napa Valley and Italy; exclusive winemaker and culinary dinners; and a variety of magnums and verticals.

St. Thomas Elementary and Middle School in Bellevue hosted its 36th annual Parents’ Auction Boots & Bling last Saturday. Chairs Rian MacLeod and Catherine Nielsen with their team of volunteers created a hip-slappin’ hootenanny at Lord Hills Farm in Snohomish.

Parents and friends of St. Thomas students donned their country chic attire, complete with boots, spurs, vests and hats, and celebrated together as a community while raising over $500,000 to support the school’s educational and financial aid programs.

The American Heart Association raised $310,000 on March 26 at its annual Heart Ball at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Nearly 350 of Seattle’s business, community and medical leaders gathered together in the Spanish Ballroom to hear heartwarming success stories, share their passion for the cause, and pay tribute to one of Seattle’s finest pediatric cardiologists, Dr. Stanley Stamm of Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Stamm was also this year’s Golden Heart Honoree recipient. Co-chairs, Dr. Gordon Cohen and Trisha Cohen of Seattle Children’s Hospital, shared their passion for the cause and were acknowledged for helping make the event a success.

Two live auction items sold for $9,000 each: a Mariners suite bought by Dr. Mark Dedomenico and a Celebrated Chef meal purchased by Richard and Barrie Galanti.

Jean Enersen with KING 5 TV and the event’s emcee wore a beautiful Luly Yang couture dress on stage.

Overheard in Bellevue

While sipping coffee, I overheard a conversation about the importance of friendship. They discussed how “strong friendships can teach the true meaning of unselfishness.” And that to “have a friend, one needs to be a friend.”
