The Golf Fore Red Tournament for the American Heart Association raised nearly $4,000 for the heart-worthy cause. The golf event was held on June 20 at The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge and was presented by the Northwest Ladies Golf Association along with the Seattle Chapter of Executive Women’s Golf Association.
The women golfers, many wearing red apparel in honor of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women” initiative, competed as scramble teams and prizes for most accurate drive, closest to the pin, and a chipping contest using wine corks. Ladies Professional Golf Association Pros Erin Szekely and Peggy Conley volunteered their time to assist teams with long drives on the course’s par 5 sixth hole.
As part of the fund-raising effort, players purchased tickets to win more than 20 prizes donated by tournament sponsors and supporters. A live auction followed the day of golfing.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, and a leading cause of disability among women. More than 41 million American women are living with one or more types of cardiovascular disease, yet only one in five view heart disease as their greatest health threat. More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five cause of death combined, including all forms of cancer, according to the American Heart Association.
The raised funds from The Golf Fore Red Tournament will be presented to the local affiliate of the American Heart Association, which covers King and Snohomish counties.
