Now is the time of year when many people want to get organized and get rid of clutter around their homes. Below are general tips for Bellevue residents on what can be recycled, trashed or taken to a household hazardous waste site.

Now is the time of year when many people want to get organized and get rid of clutter around their homes. Below are general tips for Bellevue residents on what can be recycled, trashed or taken to a household hazardous waste site.

Curbside Recycling. Place the items listed below at the curb next to your blue recycling cart if you are a single-family Allied Waste customer:

Small electronics such as computers and accessories, printers, TVs (screens 21” or less), radios, cell phones. Must be less than 2 feet in any direction and less than 60 lbs. per item.

Small appliances such as toasters, coffee makers, microwaves, hair dryers, curling irons. Must be less than 2 feet in any direction and less than 35 lbs. per item.

Textiles such as clothing, hats, belts, blankets, drapes, paired shoes, purses, stuffed animals. Items must be clean, dry and usable. Place items in a clear plastic bag marked “Clothing,” securely tie shut and place near the blue recycling cart.

Allied Waste customers who live in apartments and condominiums should ask their property manager to call Allied at 425-646-2492 to arrange for a special pickup of these items.

Special Collection Event. Bellevue holds one spring and one fall event a year for residents, where the above items are accepted. Other items accepted include larger appliances and electronics, household batteries, scrap metal, clean scrap wood, porcelain toilets and sinks, etc.

Fliers will be sent out to all Bellevue residents with detailed information prior to an event or call Bellevue Utilities weekdays at 425-452-6932.

Quantities accepted may be limited. Some fees. No household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, etc.). No furniture, mattresses, tires and other items listed in flier.

Factoria Transfer Station’s Household Hazardous Waste site, 13800 SE 32nd St., Bellevue. Call 206-296-4466 for days open, new hours, limits and other information.

Household Hazardous Waste such as oil-based paints, thinners, pesticides and garden chemicals, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, thermometers, thermostats and batteries with mercury, oil, antifreeze, household cleaners with ammonia or bleach, propane tanks (5 lb.), auto batteries (not alkaline). Check the

county website.

Local charities such as Goodwill. Take electronics, household goods, furniture, and other items for reuse or recycling. St. Vincent de Paul accepts clean, unsoiled mattresses. Call first to find out what’s accepted before making a trip.

Garbage Container. Put items that cannot be reused or recycled in the garbage, such as latex paint that has been dried out with kitty litter or paint hardener, (leave the lid off ; no wet paint), empty containers that held toxic products, clear polystyrene takeout containers and other shapes, plastic packaging, plastic garbage bags, styrofoam packaging (check with local mailing stores to see if they accept styrofoam peanuts).
