Governor to keynote housing summit in Bellevue

The Puget Sound region is in a housing crisis. As the region's economy grows, so does the number of workers and families moving into the area looking for a home. Skyrocketing home prices, spiraling rents and the shortage of affordable housing create news headlines every day.

The Puget Sound region is in a housing crisis. As the region’s economy grows, so does the number of workers and families moving into the area looking for a home. Skyrocketing home prices, spiraling rents and the shortage of affordable housing create news headlines every day.

Making matters worse is a lack of buildable land, and regulations that continue to hinder local builders looking to provide more homes. Something needs to be done before Seattle’s housing market replicates that of San Francisco. This is why Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBA) is bringing together local and regional experts to discuss this issue and possible solutions during a housing summit on Sept. 15 in Bellevue.

Engaging in this discussion as the keynote speaker is Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee, who will lend his perspective. Joining Inslee are:

• Matthew Gardner, chief economist, Windermere Real Estate

• John DesCamp, vice president and relationship manager, Washington Trust Bank

• Gordon McHenry, Jr., president and CEO, Solid Ground

Guests can also look forward to a panel discussion featuring state legislators and housing experts Sen. Joe Fain, Rep. Larry Springer and Peter Orser with the U.W. Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies.

The event will run from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 at the Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE 6th St., Bellevue. Admission is free. To register, visit masterbuildersinfo.com/events.
