A local group is sponsoring a ceremony at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue on Dec. 14 to honor the more than 1,800 veterans buried there.
Called Wreaths Across America, the event seeks to place a wreath on every grave of a veteran at Sunset Hills. A community wide ceremony will take place at 10 a.m.
The local group faces a deadline of Nov. 22 to receive enough money to order wreaths for the veterans’ graves. The wreaths will be delivered to cemeteries by volunteer trucking companies and firms such as Wal-Mart and FedEx. On the East Coast, wreaths are delivered to Arlington National Cemetery by a truck convoy from running from northern Maine to Virginia.
Those who wish to contribute to the effort have two ways to do so:
They can write a check (for any amount) or for $15 per wreath and mail it to “Wreaths Across America,” ℅ Lucas & Lucas, P.S., 919 124th Ave. N.E., #101, Bellevue, WA 98005
Donors should include their return address so that a receipt may be issued to them by Wreaths Across America for your tax-deductible contribution.
People also can click on a link to go directly to the Wreaths Across America website’s wreath order page:
After clicking on the link, a page will open and then very quickly it will be replaced by another page that has the headline “Search For a Participant.” The “Participant” for wreaths delivered to Sunset Hills Memorial Park is automatically selected, e.g., WASHMP, and it appears in the text box.
People should scroll down until they see WASARoo2 Cascade Centennial Chapter – SAR and a blue button inscribed “Donate Now”. Clicking on the button brings up a page where they select the number of wreaths they want to donate – or they can donate a specified amount. Major credit cards are accepted.
Donors have the option to enter their name and – if desired – the name of a veteran or person they want to remember or honor. There is also a way to have an e-card sent via email or have a printed card mailed to the family / friend / honoree, with a personalized message.
At the ceremony, at 10 a.m. Dec. 14, people can place the wreaths on on veterans graves.
