Heritage Corner is a weekly feature of the Bellevue Reporter. Material is provided by the Eastside Heritage Center.
This set of scales, donated to the Eastside Heritage Center in 1995, was once used at Lakeside Drugs by owner and pharmacist Meta Burrows (1909 – 1996).
Burrows, considered Bellevue’s first real businesswoman, owned her own store. She was a hard worker, and Lakeside Drugs became a well-known feature of Bellevue’s Main Street. In fact, by the time it closed its doors in 1979 it was Bellevue’s oldest continually operating business.
Bellevue citizens still remember her as a remarkable woman, with a strong will and big heart, who helped to make her community a better place and paved the way for career women in this city.
