For many older adults, independent living is an important factor in the quality of their lives. To help seniors find resources to help them stay at home as they age, there will be a “Home Sweet Home Fair” from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Bellevue City Hall, 450 110th N.E.

The fair will bring together more than 40 different providers of equipment and services for older adults. Among the expected participants are home care service providers, durable medical equipment providers, vendors of emergency alert systems, providers of financial and legal services, and a non-profit organization that offers computer and internet education for older adults.

The event is hosted by Overlake Hospital, city of Bellevue, Visiting Nurse Services, Providence Home Services, Bellevue Healthcare, and Elder and Adult Day Services.

In addition to the resource fair, speakers will make the following presentations in the Bellevue Council Chambers:

● 9:30 to 10 a.m.– Keynote address: “Planning Ahead to Age in Your Community” by Bill Schulthies, investment advisor with Sagemark Wealth Management;

● 10 to 10:30 a.m.– “Staying Healthy” by Dr. Hank Williams, Medical Director of Bellevue Senior Health Center;

● 11 to 11:45 a.m.– “How to Stay in Your Home Safely as You Age” by Bill Morrell of Adaptive Installations and Lynne Robinson, Physical Therapist; and

● 1 to 2:30 p.m. – Special presentation on the Beacon Hill Village project, “a Senior Living Community without Walls” by Carol Laibson, of Beacon Hill Village.

This nonprofit organization, founded by community residents, provides services and programs that enable seniors to remain in their own home and neighborhood. Over 100 communities, based on the Beacon Hill Village model, are now in existence in the United States.
