Humane Society cuts adoption fees for senior pets

The Seattle Humane Society has waived adoption fees on cats 5 years and older through the month of November. Also, adoption fees for dogs 5 years and older are half price.

The Bellevue-based society is celebrating Senior-Pet Month.

Every companion animal has been microchipped, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and comes with 30 days of pet health insurance and a certificate for an examination by a King County veterinarian.

At some shelters, dogs and cats over the age of three are not considered “adoptable,” Humane Society officials say, but the mission of the society is to find homes for every healthy, companion animal that comes through its doors.

According to the Society, here are the top five reasons to adopt a mature pet:

* You know exactly who you are adopting because his or her personality is formed. Plus, these great dogs and cats tend to have just the right level of playfulness for busy families.

* Most mature pets have already learned many of life’s lessons -including potty lessons.

* Older companion animals seem to acclimate more quickly to new settings.

* Many adopters say that senior dogs and cats really seem to appreciate it when they are adopted and bond to their new family more readily than younger ones.

* With older pets, you don’t have to spend time teaching them all the basics – they already know them.

The Humane Society is located at 13212 SE Eastgate Way in Bellevue, or see adoptable pets online.
