The Bellevue-based Seattle Humane Society found adoptions for 6,191 dogs, cats and critters in 2014 and returned 162 pets returned to their owners.
“We save lives and help complete families, but we don’t do it alone,” Seattle Humane CEO David Loewe said. “Our 1,800 volunteers donated 206,000 hours to help pets in need in 2014. We simply couldn’t do our work without their incredible support.”
Additional highlights from 2014 include:
• With the help of visiting veterinary students from Washington State University, 8,401 surgical procedures were performed at organization’s veterinary clinic, including 2,708 pets spayed and neutered through programs for low-income families in our community.
• A total of 5,419 pets at the shelter received foster care in the homes of nearly 700 volunteer foster parents. They tended to underage puppies and kittens who required round-the-clock bottle feedings; senior pets who needed a break from shelter life; and pets recovering from surgery.
