Students from the International School are giving a new meaning to the “Senior Prom,”

The students will host a special dance event for the senior citizens at Overlake Terrace retirement home at 7 p.m. on June 6.

Hosted by the schools community service club, Roots and Shoots, the Senior Citizen Prom is the biggest event hosted by the club, which also sponsors a number of other events, including Kindness Week and a Big/Little Buddy Program for incoming 6th graders.

The dance started as a service project of the National Honor Society in 1997, but was passed to Roots and Shoots in 1998; this is the 15th year the event has been held.

Approximately 45 club members helped create decorations for the prom under this year’s theme “Happily Ever After.” The event also will feature music by International School’s jazz band, the crowning of Prom King and Queen, and dinner provided by Overlake Terrace.

Special attire is required, with girls wearing nice dresses and boys wearing suits or a nice shirt and pants – and students outside of the club are welcome to attend.
