Bellevue Police Chief Linda Pillo told the City Council Monday that events that led to multiple confrontations between three off duty Bellevue police officers, Seattle Police, and a group of fans at Seattle Seahawks game Sept. 16, will be thoroughly investigated.

A review of the three officers will take approximately 30 days to complete, Pillo said, after which time she plans to discipline them.

On the afternoon of the 16th, before the Seattle Seahawks game at CenturyLink Stadium, the group walked by a female Seattle police officer and threw litter on the ground. She asked them to pick up the litter and they turned and confronted her. According to Seattle Police, the Bellevue officers identified themselves. The officers were not cited for littering, or for their response to the Seattle officer’s request to pick up the trash.

“I want to emphasize that the reported off-duty incidents of the officers are not indicative of the Bellevue Police Department,” Pillo told the council. “Your officers provide extraordinary service to the Bellevue community every day. I’m proud of their work and their dedication to provide the highest level of law enforcement.”

The three officers from Bellevue were thrown out of the stadium a short time after the confrontation with the Seattle officer. A ticket holder from Burien said the officers were highly intoxicated and swearing consistently. The fan asked the officers, one female and two males, to stop swearing, and they began to call him names, and one of them told him “not to get pulled over in Bellevue.”
