A man who stole money from the Chinook Elementary PTSA during his time as the group’s treasurer will spend 30 days of electronic home detention and 240 hours of community service.
A King County Superior Court judge on Friday issued the sentence to John “David” Glass, 53, of Clyde Hill, who pleaded guilty in July to first-degree theft for embezzling over $63,000 from the PTSA organization.
“A lot of work went into providing evidence and documentation to prosecute the case,” said Chinook PTSA board member Angie Lampkin. “In the end, we’re glad it’s over and that justice prevailed.”
The group’s board first became suspicious of Glass after that its account was down to $400, despite a policy of keeping a minimum $30,000 balance.
The board later discovered a debit card in Glass’ name, along with unauthorized transactions that included motel and hunting-license charges in South Dakota, a payment at Kenmore Shooting Range, and checks payable to his wife.
The group also learned that Glass transferred over $25,000 from its annual fundraising drive to his own marketing research and strategy firm, Ten Acres LLC.
Glass admitted to the PTSA board in November that he stole funds from the group’s account. Court documents said he repaid $64,125.
“I think everyone can move forward now,” Lampkin said. “I’d just call the whole thing an unfortunate situation.”
Glass helped run a charity group called Guys Night Out, which raises funds to help children suffering from abuse and neglect, according to the organization’s web site. He has also served as a coach and youth director for Bellevue Boys Lacrosse.
