Cloudy skies couldn’t dampen the spirits of 24 picnickers eking out one more day of summer on the lawn at Ashwood Park in Bellevue on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Sandwiched between a branch of the King County Library and Ten20 apartments, the park is located directly across the street from Pacific Regent, home to 150 retirement age residents, including Wednesday’s picnickers. Susan Nelson (pictured standing in the foreground, wearing a hat), has taken an active role in the effort to “Keep Ashwood Park Green,” part of a campaign to keep the neighborhood park from future development. Ashwood Park is one of only two small patches of open space remaining in the heart of downtown Bellevue. COURTESY PHOTO
