Kevin Wallace, a top executive from Wallace Properties, has announced that he plans to run for Patsy Bonincontri’s seat with the Bellevue City Council in November.
The political newcomer is President and COO of the Bellevue-based real-estate company that his father founded in 1978.
Wallace’s statement said that he had surpassed the $10,000 mark in campaign contributions after filing for office on March 30.
“I wanted to demonstrate progress before I publically announced my campaign, and this strong, early financial support has exceeded my expectations,” he said in the release.
Wallace said that he plans to prioritize the city’s taxpayer resources, focusing on transportation improvements, public safety, and sustainable growth.
“Bellevue has seen unprecedented growth downtown as it has become the economic center of the Eastside,” he said. “That success has brought traffic, not just to downtown, but to the whole community, and is why a top priority of my campaign is ensuring our citizens and businesses can move freely around the city.”
Wallace served as a chair of the Joint City/Bellevue Downtown Association/Chamber of Commerce Budget Committee last year, and as chair of the Eastside YMCA’s Partners with Youth Campaign. He’s also and a member of the building committee responsible for development of the Coal Creek YMCA.
Bonincontri was appointed to her position last year when Connie Marshall stepped down from the council. She voted in February to recommend the proposed East Link light-rail route that would run along Bellevue Way.
Opponents of that alignment spoke after the vote about mounting a campaign against her.
