The King Conservation District will hold a public election March 19 for a three-year term for elected position 3 for the board of supervisors.
Individuals interested in running for the position should contact the district for more information on the board’s duties and responsibilities.
Candidates must complete a nomination petition form and gather at least 25 signatures of registered voters who reside within the district. The petition must be delivered to the district’s office by March 4 to be included on the
ballot. Registered voters who reside within the
district’s boundaries (which include most of King
County) are eligible to submit an application.
Copies of the petition are available online at
www.scc.wa.gov or at the King CD office at 935 Powell Ave. SW in Renton. Contact Susan Wermus in the King CD office at 425.277.5581 or susan.wermus@kingcd.org for more information.
The district is working with Bellevue-based election
administrator Election Trust, which will provide 13 polling
locations for the election, one of which will be in Bellevue at the King County Library/Bellevue Regional
Branch – 1111 110th Ave. N.E. Poll hours will 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The all-volunteer, five-member board includes three
elected members and two who are appointed by the
Washington State Conservation Commission. All
supervisors serve three-year terms. As public
officials, their responsibility is to ensure that the
King CD meets its legal and public trust obligations.
The board of supervisors conducts regular public
meetings to oversee the district’s budget and provide
guidance and oversight to district staff.
Supervisors are expected to help identify critical
resource conservation needs in their district,
communicate with the public and seek feedback about
conservation programs from district residents.
The King CD provides information and technical
assistance programs that are available to all
landowners within the district’s boundaries on a
voluntary, non-regulatory basis.
