Three Bellevue residents were displaced from their home after a small kitchen fair caused damage throughout the house.
On Sept. 22, Bellevue fire crews extinguished the fire when a man left a pan of hot oil unattended.
The resident said he left a pan of oil to heat on the stove while he stepped outside for a moment. When he returned, the stovetop was on fire. The fire started at 8:25 p.m. at the Stoneridge Apartments in the 14500 block of Northeast Seventh Place.
The surrounding cabinets and wall were damaged, and smoke damage was visible throughout the apartment.
Firefighters were able to gain quick access to the apartment and fight the majority of the fire with a dry-chemical extinguisher. Several follow-up blasts with a fire hose finished off the remaining heat.
There were no injuries to firefighters or residents. There was an estimated $15,000 damage to the room and contents.
