Tim Wise, a nationally-recognized author and activist, will speak about white privilege and racism at Bellevue College’s Carlson Theatre from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, with a reception to immediately follow. The event is free and open to the public.
Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States and was recently named one of “25 Visionaries Who are Changing Your World” by Utne Reader, an online and print digest that covers a range of issues, including diversity and pluralism. He has spoken in 49 states, on over 600 college campuses, and to community groups across the nation.
Wise is the author of six books, including the just-published “Dear White America: Letter to a New Minority” and “White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son,” and has contributed essays to 25 books. He received the 2001 British Diversity Award for best feature essay on race issues, and his writings have appeared in dozens of popular, professional and scholarly journals.
Additionally, Wise has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs, is a regular contributor to discussions about race on CNN, and has been featured on the ABC television program “20/20.”
