LifeSpring announced Thursday it has received the largest single grant in the nonprofit’s history, taking in $75,000 from the Not Yet Foundation to support a pilot expansion of its summer Breaktime-Mealtime program.
Breaktime-Mealtime provides impoverished children within the Bellevue School District with supplemental boxed meals during breaks in school.
This year’s six-week summer pilot program will include a revised menu of healthier food options — crafted with assistance from Not Yet, Overlake Hospital Medical Center and Whole Foods — and is expected to provide support to 350 families.
“We are grateful to the Not Yet Foundation for enabling us to expand this program into the summer,” said LifeSpring Executive Director Jennifer Fischer in a statement. “The fact that we are providing healthier food choices in the boxes, will have a significant impact on the development and health of the children in our community. By providing consistent nutrition to children living in poverty, we are able to give them a healthy foundation for success and self-sufficiency.”
