LifeWire will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the Hope Starts Here Breakfast on Oct. 4. The event will feature Lorenzo Romar, University of Washington Men’s Basketball Coach and will highlight LifeWire’s work to end domestic violence in the community.
Romar grew up around domestic violence and has witnessed its devastating impact.
“Speaking out against domestic violence is a very dear, very sensitive subject to me and anything I can do, I’m willing to do, to stop it,” Romar said.
The breakfast will raise awareness and funds for victims, children and families during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“Our work is making a profound difference in the lives of thousands of families in our community” said Barbara Langdon, LifeWire Executive Director. “We’ve seen an increase in critical cases, where families are in desperate need.”
Honorary Chairs Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna and Marilyn McKenna will present the Outstanding Leader of the Year award to the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their cutting-edge work to end homelessness for domestic violence victims. Issaquah Women’s Club will be honored as Volunteer Team of the Year. Jean Enersen of KING 5 News will emcee.
University of Washington alumni athletes Norris Frederick, Olympic Track & Field hopeful, and Allison Rainey, tennis player and community volunteer, will share their stories of domestic violence with the audience.
The breakfast will be held at the Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE Sixth St. in Bellevue with a 7 a.m. registration and 7:30 a.m.–9 a.m. A total of 400 guests are expected to attend.
