With certified election results for the August primary in, many incumbents have a firm grasp on their positions heading into the November general election.
In the 48th Legislative District Position 1 race, Patty Kuderer (D-Clyde Hill) got 73.8 percent of the vote, with Libertarian challenger Michelle Darnell coming in with 25.8 percent. In Position 2, incumbent Joan McBride (D-Kirkland) earned 77 percent of the vote to Benjamin Judah Phelps’ 22 percent.
In Legislative District 41, incumbent Tana Senn (D-Mercer Island) comfortably led John Pass (R-Bellevue) with 65 percent of the vote to Pass’s 34.8 percent in the state representative Position 1 race. In Position 2, incumbent Judy Clibborn (D-Mercer Island) leads a field of competitors with 55 percent of the vote, and Republican Michael Appleby finished second with 32.96 percent and will face off with Clibborn in November. William Popp, Sr. finished with 9.7 percent and Angel Jordan with 2 percent to round out the field.
For state senator in the 41st District, incumbent Steve Litzow (R-Mercer Island) faces a challenge this fall from Democrat Lisa Wellman. She edged out Litzow as the top vote-getter in the race by just 456 votes. Bryan Simonson, a Libertarian candidate, earned 3.9 percent of the vote, and those 1,189 votes are likely to swing back toward Litzow in the fall, which could be the edge he’d need to keep his seat.
In the state’s executive races, local legislator Cyrus Habib (D-Bellevue) performed well in the lieutenant governor race in King County. Habib received the most votes in the wide race, earning 38.28 percent of the county-wide vote. He will face off with Marty McClendon in November.
Jay Inslee looks poised to keep his governor’s office with 64 percent of King County’s vote with Republican Bill Bryant finishing second with 26.76 percent of the vote. Bellevue resident Bill Hirt earned 1.62 percent of the vote in King County.
In national affairs, Adam Smith leads Jesse Wineberry and Doug Basler with 56 percent of the vote for U.S. Representative for Congressional District 9.
