University of Phoenix Western Washington Campus today announced it has awarded alumna Amy Buckley with a Community Service Award for her dedication to fulfilling the dreams of others through her non-profit “Dream Adventures.”
The organization is designed to inspire and aid deserving individuals and those suffering with poor health in the completion of the goals on their bucket list.
“After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in November 2006, I found a whole new appreciation for life,” said Buckley. “After watching the movie ‘The Bucket List’ I was inspired to encourage others to live their lives to the fullest. Pursing my bachelor’s and master’s degree was near the top of my own bucket list and I’m so happy to have nearly achieved both of those goals.”
Dream Adventure’s mission is “to inspire and aid in the fulfillment of dream adventures on the bucket list.” Buckley serves as an “adventure concierge,” helping individuals by researching their dream adventure and making it happen.
Individuals interested in “Funding An Adventure” can give back to Washington’s firefighters, law enforcement, or veterans that have performed an act of heroism by donating to their adventure fund. Whether the dream is to sky dive, learn to play a musical instrument, continue the educational journey, or unite with a loved one, Buckley will personally see to it that the dream is accomplished.
Since launching her company in May, Buckley has successfully facilitated two adventures. Thanks to the support of American Legion 161 and five additional donors, a Navy veteran with pancreatic cancer was granted his only wish – to marry his girlfriend.
Buckley also helped the family of slain off-duty Washington State Corrections Officer. As Seattle Seahawks fans, the family wanted to see the officer recognized at a Seahawks game. With Buckley’s assistance, he was recognized and members of the family watched the Patriots vs. Seahawks game from the 12th Man Suite.
Buckley started attending University of Phoenix Western Washington Campus in the summer of 2009. Since then, she has earned her bachelor’s degree in business management, and is currently in the MBA program. She is set to graduate this month.
