The following is a sample from the Bellevue Police Department’s Bellevue Beat Blog:
March 11
Father assaults daughter: At 11:52 p.m. in the 400 block of Bellevue Way SE, a victim called 911 to report that her father had assaulted her. The victim and suspect have mutual no contact orders. The suspect was arrested for violation of a no contact order and fourth-degree domestic violence.
Victim duped with car “repairs”: At 3:30 p.m. at 7 Lake Bellevue Drive, suspects approached a victim and offered to “fix” a crack in her bumper for $700. After completing the “repair” the suspects offered to fix another issue but that repair needed a special tool that required a $2,500 cash deposit. The victim went to the bank and withdrew $2,500 and turned it over to the suspects. The suspects failed to return to complete the repair.
March 10
Purse thief caught after chase: At 1:45 p.m. at Downtown Park, a suspect stole a victim’s purse while it was left unattended on a park bench. The victim and a witness chased the suspect and drew the attention of two additional witnesses who joined in the foot pursuit. Witnesses tackled and detained the suspect at a nearby business. After being informed that the police were en route, the suspect broke free and ran towards Downtown Park. Witnesses, once again, engaged in a foot pursuit, tackled the suspect again just inside Downtown Park and this time pinned him to the ground until police arrived to secure him in handcuffs. The suspect was treated by the Bellevue Fire Department for a scratch and later booked into jail for third-degree theft.
Tree cutter: At 10:43 a.m. in the 6500 block of 156th Ave. SE, a caller reported someone had been cutting trees at a location the caller believed were on city of Bellevue property. Officers responded and contacted the homeowner who stated that he believed the trees being cut were on his property. An officer took photos of the area and forwarded the case to the city of Bellevue Parks Department for further investigation.
Mail thief: At 1:59 a.m. in the 1900 block of 161st Place NE, as K-9 officers were training in the area, an officer saw a man going through mailboxes. He continued watching the male suspect as he walked up a driveway empty handed and returned carrying a pair of shoes. Officers detained the male and later arrested the man for theft.
March 9
Woman caught having temper tantrum: At 11:22 a.m. in the 9800 block of NE 31st St., officers responded to the area for reports of a female who was smashing windows on the reporting party’s vehicle. When the reporting party confronted the suspect, the suspect assaulted the reporting party and then fled into a nearby house. The first arriving officers attempted to contact with the suspect. The suspect refused to come out and was irate. Initial dialogue with the suspect revealed she was irrational and clearly having a violent mental/emotional episode. Officers also observed a small child in the residence. Based on the fear for the child’s safety, officers forced entry into the residence. The suspect was then taken into custody and the child was unharmed. The suspect was medically cleared and later booked into jail.
Husband assaults wife: At 9:30 a.m. in the 14500 block of NE 40th St., a husband and wife were involved in an argument over how little work the husband’s mother did around the house. The husband then assaulted the wife. Police arrested and booked him into jail for domestic violence assault.
March 7
Person caught with heroin: At 10:50 p.m. on the westbound Interstate 90 ramp from Richards Road, an officer contacted a subject during a traffic stop. The subject was detained after the officer saw drug paraphernalia in open view inside the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed almost an ounce of suspected heroin in the subject’s pocket. The vehicle which was impounded pending a search warrant.
Man caught smoking drugs, masturbating: At 3:30 p.m. in the 10100 block of NE Eighth St., security told police there was a male inside a vehicle smoking something off of tinfoil and masturbating. Officers located the vehicle in question in a parking lot across the street, and saw that the driver was meeting up with a person in a red Dodge Charger. The officer ran the license plate on the Charger and discovered it was stolen. He was able to detain a female passenger but the male driver took off on foot. Responding officers located the male suspect running a short distance away and he was arrested.
March 5
Learn how to drive: At 9:26 a.m. in the 300 block of 116th Ave. SE, Washington State Patrol received a report that a driver who was driving recklessly on Interstate 405 had crashed into a barrier. A short time later, an auto body shop called police to report the same subject had crashed into a customer’s car. Officers arrived and arrested the subject.
