Andrew M. Fox has been identified as the man who wielded a knife at Bellevue Police before he was shot and killed early Thursday morning.
Police say Fox would not let two clerks and two patrons leave the Chevron Station in the 1600 block of Bellevue Way Southeast.
Witnesses said Fox was threatening them with a large knife. They added that he told the clerk to call the police and tell them he was taking the Chevron hostage.
When the first three police officers arrived, they say Fox walked out of the store. He approached the officers holding a large chef/butcher type knife, according to Police reports. He held the knife in threatening manner as he continued towards the officers.
Shots were fired which resulted in Fox being killed.
Medics arrived and Fox was pronounced dead. The name of the deceased will be released by the King County Medical Examiner Office. Fox, 25, was a resident of Bellevue. Attempts have been made to notify family members of the deceased.
One officer involved is 31 years old and has four years of law enforcement experience. The other officer is 27 years old with three and half years of law enforcement experience. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is mandatory after an incident of this nature, Police officials say.
The event occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. Thursday.
