A young man who went into cardiac arrest while swimming in Lake Washington was rescued by a firefighter on Wednesday.
The Bellevue Police and Fire Departments received a call of a disorderly male in his 20s at Clyde Beach Park on the afternoon of March 9. Upon arrival, they found the man in the water near the dock, but could not persuade him to swim back to the shore, according to Bellevue Fire Department spokesperson Ryan Armstrong.
Approximately 15 minutes after their arrival, the man lost consciousness, still in the water. Bellevue firefighter Maia Earle jumped into Lake Washington and was able to drag him back to shore.
The man subsequently went into cardiac arrest, and CPR was initiated. He was revived and transported to Overlake Hospital Medical Center, where he is currently in a hypothermic state with his core temperature slowly being raised. He is currently stable.
