Bellevue Police are investigating the death of a 54-year-old North Bend man whose body and pickup truck were recovered off the Sweyolocken boat launch in the Mercer Slough Thursday and whether a medical issue may have been a factor.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle submerged in the slough around 9 a.m. Two divers from the department swam out to the sunken Ford F-150 and found no one inside, according to police. The vehicle was removed using a large tow truck, and divers with the Mercer Island Police Department were called in.
They found the man’s body around 1 p.m. about 35 feet from where his truck had been submerged and about seven feet below water, said Carla Iafrate, public information officer for the Bellevue Police Department.
The victim’s family was notified, and police have determined the 54-year-old man had not shown up for work that morning, nor had he responded to cellphone texts from his wife. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform and autopsy and is expected to release the victim’s name after, according to police.
