As if a Miley Cyrus concert weren’t enough to excite local youth, Microsoft threw in $200,000 for more high-tech gadgets in school.

To celebrate the launch of the software company’s new store downtown and to recognize the importance of technology in public education, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer and Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner presented Assistant Superintendent Eva Collins with the hefty check for the Bellevue School District. “Microsoft has been such a terrific community partner with Bellevue in so many ways for so many years,” Collins said.  “Many Microsoft employees are parents or volunteers in our district, which makes this gift even more personal.” With the check, the company gave the district a list of software it can choose from to enhance math, science and technology instruction. The funds have yet to be allocated, but Collins will likely be making those decisions in the near future, said Jacque Coe, director of communications.
