Newport Ski Swap, Eastside’s largest, coming Friday, Saturday

Newport High School will hold its 25th Annual Newport Ski and Snowboard Swap on Friday and Saturday.

Newport High School will hold its 25th Annual Newport Ski and Snowboard Swap on Friday and Saturday.

The event is the largest on the Eastside and features 10,000-square-feet of snow sports gear. Downhill and Nordic skis, snowboards, bindings, boots, poles, helmets, clothes, underwear, gloves, goggles, accessories and more are available at discounted prices.

The event is open to the public. Entry and parking are free. Used equipment, to be sold on consignment, is also being accepted from the public.

Event hours:

Gear drop off (for those who want to consign gear): Friday, 3-7:30 p.m.

Sale: Friday, 5-9 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event has produced an estimated $3,218,000 in income and $528,000 profit for the Newport High School PTSA.

An estimated 1,400 volunteers have participated, some for 20 years. More than 75,000 pieces of gear has been sold.

More than 8,000 attended the sale in 2009. Since its start, an estimated 60,000 have come to the sale.

In 2008, customers came from 120 ZIP codes. A total of 39 percent of the customers were from the Bellevue area. The rest came from as far away as Bellingham, Vancouver Island, Olympia, Portland, Bremerton, Cle Elum and Montana.
