John Thomas Fullerton of North Bend died on Friday, October 30, 2009. He was 67.
Mr. Fullerton was born on October 16, 1942 in Seattle, the son of Tom and Mabel Fullerton. He was raised in Shoreline, where he attended high school, and later went on to college at Western Washington University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in education, and then at Central Washington University, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. In 1965, he became a teacher of Mathematics at Newport High School, a profession he followed for 28 years.
Mr. Fullerton played varsity football in high school, and went on to play for four years as offensive tackle at Western College. Shortly after joining the teaching faculty at Newport High, he began a well-known career as a coach of varsity football, wrestling, and track and field, which carried for well over 40 years. It was a career marked by numerous state championships.
He also was an accomplished fisherman, outdoorsman, photographer, and volunteer.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his sister, Carol; his extended children, including Bryce, Connor, Stacy, Shelia, Wesley, Matthew, and Michael; and five grandchildren.
A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, at Newport High School, 4333 Factoria Blvd. SE Bellevue. A public reception will be held following the event.
