The reopening of the Palomino Rustico restaurant in downtown Bellevue will include a fundraising effort for Bellevue LifeSpring.

Starting May 15, the restaurant is donating 6.5 percent of its Thursday food sales to the charity’s ‘s Breaktime-Mealtime food program that, in partnership with the Bellevue School District, provides free food to over 1,500 qualified Bellevue students enrolled in Head Start and the free and reduced-price lunch programs over school breaks. The program continues until June 26.

The percentage amount honors the 65th anniversary of Bellevue LifeSpring’s Thrift Shop, which is part of the Bellevue Collection, as is the restaurant.

Children receive boxes of easy-to-prepare breakfast and lunch items to substitute for meals they would normally get at school. Included in the box is one week’s worth of nutritious food, a grocery voucher to buy perishables such as fresh produce, bread and milk, and a menu of suggested meal ideas.

In addition to the initial fundraising campaign, Palomino Rustico will be continuing the partnership with Bellevue LifeSpring by donating items for its Annual “Wine at it’s Best” Wine Tasting and Auction, which will take place at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue on Oct. 11.
