A domestic disturbance call at a Hilltop home Sunday afternoon had Bellevue Police searching the rest of the day for a man believed to have been wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a machete.

Bellevue Police Ofc. Seth Tyler said officers responded to a call on the 5900 block of 152nd Avenue Southeast around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, where a family had been having an argument with their 25-year-old son. The man reportedly left before police arrived.

“When we arrived, family advised it’s possible he may have been carrying a machete and may have had a bulletproof vest on,” Tyler said.

A K-9 unit and King County’s Guardian One chopper responded to the wooded area around Coal Creek Parkway to assist with the search Sunday, but could not find the man who is still being sought by Bellevue detectives. Tyler said the suspect is believed to have left the area and is not being considered a threat to the public.

“This was a subject known to the family. It was a family disturbance,” Tyler said, adding the suspect’s family didn’t sustain any serious injuries. “It wasn’t any kind of random act.”
